DEPP Awards

Graduate Student, Postdoc, and Staff awards for excellence      

Deadline:

  • May 31 of 2023

Description:

  • These awards will honor professional excellence in research, teaching, extension, outreach, and/or professional service with emphasis on contributions during tenure at NC State
  • For Staff, the award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated performance above and beyond their expected job duties
  • One departmental award for Staff and three Graduate Student and Postdoc awards (MSc, PhD, and Postdoc) will be available per program (Entomology and Plant Pathology) per year
  • The expected award amount is for $500 each but this amount may change any given year pending availability of funds
  • Acceptable uses for the award include: travel to conferences, travel for collaborations, professional development opportunities, and workshops
  • Funds have to be spent within the next fiscal year from the notice of award (for example awarded June 2023, spent between July 1st of 2023 and June of 2024) 

Eligibility:

  • The nominator and nominee must be DEPP members
  • Graduate students must be within a year of expected graduation     
  • Postdocs and Staff must have been employed at NC State at least a year 
  • A candidate can only win this award once 

Application:

1) Statement describing plans for the award (1-page limit, 12-point font, 10 points)

  • Briefly describe your plan for the award and highlight your accomplishments in research, extension, teaching, academics, and/or service (only .doc or .docx format allowed)

2) Curriculum Vitae (CV) (2-page limit, 12-point font, 10 points)

  • Please provide a CV that gives emphasis to your accomplishments in research, extension, teaching, academics, and/or service. Clear format, free of errors (only .doc or .docx format allowed)

3a) Advisor recommendation (Only for Graduate students and Postdocs) (10 points)

  • The advisor recommendation has to be provided by completing the candidate recommendation form before the award submission deadline
  • A notice to complete the recommendation is not automatically generated, so please make sure to send the link to your advisor with enough time to complete the recommendation by the deadline

3b) Letter of support (Only for Staff) (10 points)

  • A letter of support for nominating Staff for the DEPP awards needs to be completed via the Staff recommendation form before the award submission deadline
  • A notice to complete the Staff recommendation is not automatically generated, so please make sure to send the link to your nominator with enough time to complete the letter of support by the deadline
